1967 Ampeg B12XT Portaflex Amp This amp was originally covered in black Tolex, with a piece of silver plastic trim in the face frame. I felt it was beyond what a good cleaning could fix so I stripped it, fixed the upper face frame (which was separating from the case) and recovered it with Ampeg Diamond Blue Tolex. The grille cloth is also new and is the appropriate Ampeg vintage style. As you can see from the photos, the cabinet was in pretty tough shape. I ended up making a new lid and tray, rather than trying to do anything with the originals. The (6) shock mounts have all been replaced with correct new ones. The leather handle, latches, corners, script logo, and foot cups are also new. The XLR jack is a NOS Switchcraft replacement. The chrome side handles are not new, but they are newer and in better shape than the originals. The 2-button footswitch for Vibrato and Echo is included, and is in good condition. I will also include a reproduction of the B12XT service manual. The amp chassis (s/n 070894) is in fair-to-good condition, with some light surface rust. The tube complement is: (1) 5AR4 unlabeled; made in England (1) 6CG7 Sylvania (4) 12AX7; (3) Amperex and (1) Tungsram (Hungarian) (1) 7199 Ampeg/Sylvania (2) 7027A Sylvania A note about the 5AR4: it appears that at some point this tube has been disconnected from the power transformer and (4) diodes have been installed on that tube socket, so the rectification is now solid-state rather than tube. The amp is pretty quiet and the vibrato and reverb both work and sound great. The logo also still lights up. The speakers have been replaced at some point and are labeled Fender Special Design. Here are the numbers that I got off of them: Rim - 020910 67-8413 Cone - 9 84 451254-1 The original dolly was long-gone so I made a new one which includes (4) heavy-duty swivel casters. While I would love to ship this in just (2) boxes, I think I am going to ship it in (3): amp, cabinet, and dolly. I’m just not comfortable with the amp bouncing around while inverted in the cabinet. I will also remove the tubes and pack them separately, probably in with the dolly. Because of the weight and hassle of shipping this amp, I will only ship to the lower 48 states. I have set a Buy It Now price, in case someone really wants this amp right away, but the reserve is considerably lower (please don’t ask what it is). Please feel free to ask any questions. I will accept Paypal or a U.S. Postal money order on this auction and payment is due within 5 days, unless you choose Buy It Now. In that case, immediate payment is required through Paypal. I plan on packing this amp while the auction is running, so that it is ready to ship once payment is received. I do not end auctions early, so please do not ask. I also do not accept bids from people with questionable feedback histories. Due to the vintage nature of this amp, it is sold as-is. For some reason some of them do not display all the time) Just to clarify payment options for this auction: I will accept Paypal or a U.S. Postal money order only. If you choose to use the Buy It Now option, immediate payment is required through Paypal.
